Animoto

Today I learned so many awesome digital tricks! I learned how to manipulate an audio file and add my voice to it! I used a really neat program called Animoto. Check out my Animoto to learn about why I think it's important to use tech-enhanced activities while teaching!

Counting by 5s Game

Hi everyone!
I am so proud of the grade 2s improvement counting by 5s! I know that some students are still practicing, but instead of just staring at a wall and counting by 5s, maybe you can make it fun with this awesome game. The great part about this game is that you can choose what number to count by. So if you have already mastered counting by 5s, you can choose to count by 6, 7, 8 or 9! If you are still having trouble and want to practice counting by 1, 2, 3 or 4s then you can choose to do that too!
Have fun practicing!

To all the adults:
You know I love to tie in the curriculum expectations when I post a game. This game ties directly into the Grade 2 Math curriculum. We are focusing on Number Sense and Numeration. If you head over to page 43 of the document, you will see that the expectation by the end of grade 2 is that students can "count forward by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, 10’s, and 25’s to 200". This online game gives students the chance to practice this skill in a fun way! They can keep track of their scores and try and beat their best score. This is great reinforcement.
I hope you have fun using this game with your child!

Common Noun Game

Hi students! Hope you had a great day in class today! As I mentioned, we are going to be continuing to look at the difference between common and proper nouns. There is a really fun where you get to act as a scorpion that eats bugs that are common nouns. If you want to practice (and have some fun!) before class tomorrow, check out this Common Noun Game tonight!

Hi Moms and Dads and Grandmas and Grandpas and ALL other Guardians!
If you're wondering about the game I have linked above, I'd love to tell you all about it! In Grade 2 the Ontario Ministry wants our students to be able to use grammar properly. This is something that I also want our students to be able to do :). Right now we are focusing on "Applying Knowledge of Language Conventions" specifically the use of common and proper nouns. If you take a look at page 58 of the Language Curriculum Document section 3.5 Grammar, you will see the specific expectation that this game is meeting. This game gives students a chance to identify which of the 4 words is a common noun. In class today we learned that proper nouns always have a capital, so this should help your child as a reminder if they are having trouble identifying the common noun!

Have fun helping your child reinforce their noun knowledge! As always, if you have any questions please send me an email and I will get back to you as soon as I can!

URLS I love

Hey students! I thought that I would give you a little glimpse into my digital life. I've compiled a little mini list of websites that I use all the time! I thought you might like them too. Check them out! Send me any websites that you use on a regular basis or that you think I might find fun! It's great to share resources :).

Links I use Regularly :
Sometimes I get in the mood to cozy up in my room and read a book. Everyone knows the best weather to do that in is when it's raining outside. What can you do if it's streaming sunshine? Head over to Rainy Mood. Now you can have the glorious sunshine outside, but can stay inside and read a book, pretending it's raining outside. Very helpful!

Have you ever been given a math problem that you just can't figure out? Well I have, and when in doubt I usually consult Siri... but when Siri is unavailable or doesn't understand your request, you can go to Wolframalpha. Here you can type in ANY math problem and it will solve it for you! You can even type in word problems and it will solve it for you. This is great for clarification, but I would NEVER use it to complete my homework. Understand? :)

You all know how obsessed with organization Miss MacDougall is. Therefore, I can be found on Pinterest every single day, pinning my thoughts in organized little Pinterest boards. I highly suggest checking out Pinterest if you haven't already.

3 of my FAVOURITE Sites:
Have you ever wanted to use a website for something but it makes you sign up? You KNOW you only want to use this website once, and you don't want to clog up your inbox! Well I have a perfect site for you! You will LOVE it! It's called 10 Minute Email. Basically if you go to the website it gives you an email that is only valid for 10 minutes! Just enough time to get a verification email and be able to never clog up your inbox.

Have you ever had a song stuck in your head but you can't figure out what it's called? You can hum it but you can't remember the lyrics so you can't type it into google... what can you do? Easy! Go to Midomi. You need a microphone (most laptops have this built in) and you click on a button to allow the computer to hear you hum or sing a verse and it will tell you what the song is!

Are you ever feeling blue, and need a pick-me-up? If you really need to know if you're awesome, head over to I Am Awesome. It will give you the motivational talk you need.

3 Sites that Show my Interest:
As you all know, I love to go on vacation during all the breaks. If you check out Sell Off Vacations, you will see where I snag all my great deals!

Have you ever noticed that I wear the same clothes as the main character on Revenge? That's because I use the WornOnTv site to find out where the character's clothes came from! Sometimes they're too expensive for me, but other times they aren't! You can get info on almost any character.

By now, you probably also know that I am not a savvy cook. I tend to eat many meals out because I don't know what to cook with the few things I have in my fridge. This is where this site comes into play. Check out MyFridgeFood. It gives you the option to put in all the food you have in your fridge, and then it creates a meal you can make with it! Talk about genius!

Sharing a Resource

Hi students!
This week I noticed that many of you were distracted in the computer lab by that pesky old Facebook. I found this wonderful app that you can download to help keep you focused! It's called SelfControl! Check it out. This app gives you the ability to block social media sites so that you can't get distracted. I highly recommend downloading this app and using it during homework time!

Welcome!

Hi students!
I am so excited to learn with you this term. This website is not going to be boring and full of stuff you won't want to read. I am compiling a whole bunch of games, websites, and resources that you might like! This website will hold important information that you might want to know to help you complete assignments, but most importantly it's super fun! Take a look at some of the URLs I've already posted. Hopefully you will find one or two that you find useful!
I can't wait to keep updating!
Enjoy!
